We like flowers and started raising them along with our vegetable and herb gardens when we moved to the Middletown, Virginia area. As a family we became interested in edible flowers, first to garnish dishes and then to incorporate into our recipes.
After doing some research we were surprised to learn that we already had over 20 varieties of edible flowers growing on our farm. We've since doubled that number. Edible flowers not only make our meals more beautiful, they also enhance the flavors dramatically and make every meal an adventure. We enjoy sharing what we have learned about using these delightful foods that God has given us and developed this web site as one way to do so.
How We Became Bouquet Banquet at Iris Hills Farm
We moved to the rolling hills of Northern Virginia several years ago with a desire to do something on a piece of land of our own. We wanted to play in the dirt. Since then we have tamed an overgrown small farm and turned it into a thriving hub of business and education.
We first tried our hand at vegetable gardening and, after a few experimental years, have successfully achieved a reliable 10-month vegetable and herb garden which produces a variety of crops in all four seasons all without the benefit of any type of protection or cover. We utilize no-till mulch systems in our year-round gardening.
Then our son got interested in irises and launched his own commercial iris hybridizing business. This was the creation of Iris Hills Farm. He sells iris rhizomes at www.IrisHillsFarm.com
